C. Semiconductors and Solar Interactions

This section will “illuminate” many of the physical properties of semiconductors that make them an ideal material for solar cells. Also, it will deal with the various interactions that occur in materials during the processes of sunlight absorption and carrier transport. It is important to have a good foundation in these processes before proceeding to the solar cell’s construction, which will assume basic knowledge of particle interactions and carrier movement within materials. Understanding the equilibrium behavior of a material and how its properties change in certain conditions will allow us to model the current flow through semiconductors.
